Why Cork?
Quercus Suber, aka the Cork Tree
Designed with you (and the planet) in mind
We founded KORK with the mission of crafting unique, eco-conscious cork bags, home decor and fashion pieces that bring style to your life. Our products are made from all-natural Portuguese cork, a truly remarkable renewable resource.
Cork is always harvested, never cut down. Made from the bark of the cork oak tree, cork is one of the most sustainable materials available. The bark is collected by hand every 9-12 years, leaving the original tree healthy and intact.
Between these harvests, the bark entirely grows back. Cork oak trees can live for up to 300 years, regenerating bark several times over their lifespans.
We are a proud member of 1% For the Planet, which means that a percentage of each sale goes directly to care for planet.
ReCORK, North America's largest natural wine cork recycling program, has recycled more than 70 million wine corks. So instead of throwing away your corks, it asks you drop them off at a local ReCORK Collection Site. We are a proud partner!
carbon offset
A Positive Impact on Climate Change
In addition to being vital producers of oxygen, cork trees that undergo harvesting absorb 3-5x more carbon dioxide gas than untouched trees. Portuguese cork trees alone help offset 10 million tons of carbon each year.
Kinder to the Earth
Cork is completely biodegradable & easily recyclable without producing any toxic residues. Whenever possible, KORK uses recycled cork to create our products.
0% Waste
Once removed from the tree, every part of the cork bark is used. Various products, like bottle stoppers, are stamped out before the rest of the bark is ground to make floor, fabrics, boards – and more! Dust from the grinding process is vacuumed, packed into containers, and compressed into biomass, then burned to provide 60% of the energy that powers cork production plants.
In addition to being exceptionally eco-friendly, highly durable cork is also water resistant, hypoallergenic, and fire resistant.
